Tips to secure a Scholarship

If you’re thinking about going to college, you probably already know that college fees are quite expensive. Scholarships are a great way to help minimize the financial burden. This allows you to focus solely on your studies and ensures that you have little to no college debt by the time you graduate. Here are some of the steps that you can take to secure a college scholarship. The Lexicon Ambassador Program offers students full academic support in the form of application essay review.

Research

The key to accessing the best scholarships is to begin your scholarship search early. Start by finding scholarships that you are eligible for and that match your interests, background, and goals. We recommend that you keep an organized list of all the scholarships that you would like to apply for. This will help you stay on track with your applications and increase your chances of securing a scholarship.

Read the application instructions and requirements carefully

Make sure you understand what the scholarship provider is looking for in a candidate, as well as the application deadline and any other requirements, such as transcripts or letters of recommendation. This will help you plan accordingly and give you enough time to prepare the necessary documents required to apply for the scholarship.

Gather necessary information and materials

Make sure that you allocate enough time to prepare the required information and documents for your scholarship application. These may include transcripts, test scores, resume, essays, or other relevant documents.

Write an outstanding scholarship essay

Many scholarships require an essay or personal statement, which gives you an opportunity to show your personality, achievements, and goals. Make sure your essay stands out and clearly demonstrates why you are a strong candidate for the scholarship. All students who enroll in the Lexicon Ambassadors Program will have access to complimentary essay or personal statement review. A personal statement is an opportunity to tell your story, beyond what is reflected on your resume or transcripts.

Submit the application

Most students often leave application submission until the very last minute. Do not make this mistake. Scholarships often have application windows of a few months, so plan accordingly and aim to submit earlier than the deadline. Follow the instructions provided by the scholarship provider, ensuring that you have included all required information and materials for submission.

Prepare for interviews or additional rounds of the selection process

Most scholarships have several selection rounds, so familiarize yourself with the process for the scholarship that you’re applying for. If you’re invited for an interview, make sure you are well-prepared and ready to discuss your qualifications and goals.

After you have submitted your application, it may take several weeks or months to hear back. Make sure that you use the experience from one application to improve your next application. Apply to as many scholarships as possible to improve your chances of securing a scholarship. Follow the Lexicon Ambassadors blog for more college application resources and tips on submitting a winning scholarship application.
