You’re never too young to be a leader!

Here are a few reasons Leadership Development is important for teens: Leadership can have a significant impact on shaping a teen’s life and help them to develop important skills and qualities. Warren Bennis once said “The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. That’s nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.” There  is no age limit when it comes to acquiring leadership skills. Being a leader is not reserved for people in specific areas. The Lexicon Ambassadors Program was designed to empower young people to develop leadership skills that are necessary to navigate the real world, help them achieve their goals and make a positive impact. Here are a few ways in which leadership can shape young people’s lives: Building confidence: Leadership opportunities can help to build a teenager’s confidence by giving them the chance to take on new challenges, solve problems, and make decisions. As they successfully navigate these challenges, their confidence can grow and they can develop a sense of self-efficacy. Our flagship Leadership Development Program is led by expert U.S. based faculty and will ensure that you gain practical skills to build your confidence. Enhancing communication skills: Effective leadership requires strong communication skills. Through leadership opportunities, teenagers can develop their ability to communicate effectively with others, whether through speaking, writing, or other forms of communication. By enrolling in our Leadership and Mentorship Programs, students will have the opportunity to engage with fellow participants, exchange ideas and share insights in order to build networks and collaborate to solve the world’s most pressing problems. Fostering teamwork and collaboration: Many leadership opportunities involve working with others, and this can help to foster teamwork and collaboration skills. Teens can learn how to work with people from different backgrounds, resolve conflicts, and achieve common goals. Working in groups encourages teenagers to work with people from different backgrounds guided by one common goal. As a participant in our Mentorship Programs, you’ll collaborate with other young people and come up with the best solutions to address the challenges in the track that you are enrolled in. This is a great opportunity to listen to different ideas and share your ideas as well. Developing decision-making skills: Whether it’s a decision about which college to apply to or scholarship to accept, you’ll need to make decisions at every turn in life. Effective leaders must be able to make difficult decisions and navigate complex situations. By taking on leadership roles, teenagers can learn how to weigh options, make informed decisions, and take responsibility for the outcomes of their choices. The Lexicon Ambassadors Program not only gives you the skills to make decisions but also the opportunity to apply those skills and influence the decisions made on the different projects that you’ll be enrolled in. As a participant in our Mentorship Programs, you could play a critical role in deciding which technology-based program to implement in South African schools to improve literacy or contributing to a decision about the most effective way for early cancer detection in Pakistan. Explore our wide range of programs to enroll in one that resonates with you and make a positive impact. Building empathy and cultural competency: Your classroom, sports team or neighborhood is made up of people from different backgrounds. The world has more diversity and learning how to interact with people who are different from you is a skill that many people don’t possess. Effective leaders must be able to understand and work with people from diverse backgrounds. By taking on leadership roles, teenagers can develop their empathy and cultural competency skills and learn to understand and respect others. The challenges that you’ll be working on in our Mentorship Programs may not be something that personally affects you but having the capacity to immerse yourself in global issues and working with diverse students and mentors to resolve them, will give you an advantage as a well-rounded leader. Developing leadership can play a critical role in shaping teenagers and helping them to develop important skills and qualities and beyond your teen years. Whether through volunteering, student government, or other leadership opportunities such as the Lexicon Ambassadors Leadership Program, teens can gain valuable experience and build a foundation for success in the future.

Do College Admission Committees care about volunteering experience? Applying to college can be daunting and every student needs to put their best foot forward in order to make an impression with the admissions committee at their preferred college. College admission committees review applications holistically, so having a strong application package will increase your changes of securing a place at the college of your dreams. It is important to note that all college admissions committees do care about volunteer experiences. Volunteering is a great way to demonstrate your commitment to your community and to make a positive impact, and it can also help you gain valuable skills and experiences that can be beneficial in college and beyond. When evaluating volunteer experiences, admissions committees will look at several factors, such as the nature and duration of the volunteer work, your level of commitment and responsibility, and the impact you made. They will also be interested in why you chose to volunteer and what you learned from the experience, as well as how it fits into your overall academic and personal goals. In general, admissions committees view volunteer experiences as a positive factor in the admissions process, especially if the volunteer work is related to your intended field of study or career goals. However, it’s important to note that while volunteer experiences are valuable, they are just one of many factors that admissions committees consider when making admissions decisions. An overall strong application package will improve your chances of admission. So, if you have volunteer experiences that you’re proud of, be sure to include them in your college applications, along with a description of what you did, how long you volunteered, and what you gained from the experience. This will give admissions committees a more complete picture of who you are and what you have to offer as a student. Tips to secure a Scholarship

If you’re thinking about going to college, you probably already know that college fees are quite expensive. Scholarships are a great way to help minimize the financial burden. This allows you to focus solely on your studies and ensures that you have little to no college debt by the time you graduate. Here are some of the steps that you can take to secure a college scholarship. The Lexicon Ambassador Program offers students full academic support in the form of application essay review.  Research The key to accessing the best scholarships is to begin your scholarship search early. Start by finding scholarships that you are eligible for and that match your interests, background, and goals. We recommend that you keep an organized list of all the scholarships that you would like to apply for. This will help you stay on track with your applications and increase your chances of securing a scholarship. Read the application instructions and requirements carefully  Make sure you understand what the scholarship provider is looking for in a candidate, as well as the application deadline and any other requirements, such as transcripts or letters of recommendation. This will help you plan accordingly and give you enough time to prepare the necessary documents required to apply for the scholarship.  Gather necessary information and materials Make sure that you allocate enough time to prepare the required information and documents for your scholarship application. These may include transcripts, test scores, resume, essays, or other relevant documents. Write an outstanding scholarship essay Many scholarships require an essay or personal statement, which gives you an opportunity to show your personality, achievements, and goals. Make sure your essay stands out and clearly demonstrates why you are a strong candidate for the scholarship. All students who enroll in the Lexicon Ambassadors Program will have access to complimentary essay or personal statement review. A personal statement is an opportunity to tell your story, beyond what is reflected on your resume or transcripts.  Submit the application  Most students often leave application submission until the very last minute. Do not make this mistake. Scholarships often have application windows of a few months, so plan accordingly and aim to submit earlier than the deadline. Follow the instructions provided by the scholarship provider, ensuring that you have included all required information and materials for submission. Prepare for interviews or additional rounds of the selection process Most scholarships have several selection rounds, so familiarize yourself with the process for the scholarship that you’re applying for. If you’re invited for an interview, make sure you are well-prepared and ready to discuss your qualifications and goals. After you have submitted your application, it may take several weeks or months to hear back. Make sure that you use the experience from one application to improve your next application. Apply to as many scholarships as possible to improve your chances of securing a scholarship. Follow the Lexicon Ambassadors blog for more college application resources and tips on submitting a winning scholarship application.
